THE TRUTH ABOUT RMGO

Last March/April, a group called Rocky Mountain Gun Owners brought reams of paper to my office and created a scene for attention.   The video was re-released in December of 2024 as if it were new, this time saying it was captured by a hidden camera. There was no hidden camera.

This video has been shared widely, including directly from Ian Escalante (a registered lobbyist) who knows the information in this video and caption is false.

If you're on this page, you've probably seen the video. If not I have put it below.

Before you watch, I encourage you to view it through the lens of that everybody in the video knows they were 1. not real petitions, 2. not from my district, and 3. not ripped up or thrown away.

Don't believe me? He even admits to it.

Ian Escalante, RMGO's Executive Director, came to my office the following day to discuss. He claims that the reason we did not receive any names from people in HD37 was because "the print shop mixed up the boxes."

We question the "printer issue" seeing as my name and a sequence number is printed on the forms - right next to my district number.

Here is an example of what was delivered to my desk.

This is the only information about the "signatory" we get.  A city (not in my district) and a zip code (not in my district). Even if they were, there is no contact information for my office to reach out to the individual to verify and/or engage with them.

At the Capitol, a "petition" is a very specific document and has specific requirements: Those are:

- the signature and printed name of each signer;

- the signer’s residence address (including house number and street) and city or town;

- the signer’s county; and

- the date and year of signing for each signer.

These "petitions" have possibly only one of those requirments, a printed name. But in the case of this example, not even that.

We scanned all of the documents given to us, went through them thoroughly, and could not identify any person from HD37 with the information provided.

Some other names RMGO provided:

In my opinion, piles of photocopied paper, especially with no way to contact the person, is not at all an effective way to communicate. When someone petitions my office we contact them. I always encourage people to reach out to their Representatives directly if they have concerns so that you don't get caught up in the unknown politics.
