Amendment 80

Who Put This on the Ballot: Placed on ballot by citizen initiative: special interest group.

How I Am Voting and Why: I am voting no for a number of reasons. First, we are only funding public schools in Colorado at funding levels prescribed in the year 1989. We are failing to adequately fund the public schools in your neighborhoods. These districts are in dire need of every dime they receive to meet the needs of modern education. In many cases this includes public charter schools that are under the purview of a local school district. We have a governmental mandate to provide these schools for the public, and taking money away from these schools for individual students to attend private schools, home schools, etc.. will inevitably require that we significantly increase taxes in order to maintain even basic necessary funding levels for school districts. I support anyone's choice in how they chose to educate their children, but the proposed model will both cause private school tuitions to increase as well as an immediate need to increase taxes in order to maintain our existing public school infrastructure.
